Being Happy
Interview
with Randy Peyser, author of
Crappy
To Happy
|
Mike Carruthers:
How can you be truly happy?
Randy
Peyser:
The first part is that you must be true to yourself, because
a lot of people live their lives as a lie.
Randy
Peyser, author of the book
Crappy To Happy
They're
living somebody else's dream or maybe it's their parents' dream,
what they should be doing, what society expects of them, instead
of really going for what they really want.
And Randy
says you need to be very deliberate in the way you live each
day.
Instead
of being at the effect of everything that's coming at you, because
there's plenty of stuff coming at you, you declare what you
will have in your day. When I'm going through a difficult time,
I say, "Okay, today I want a day filled with peace."
Or, "Today I want a day filled with a magical surprise."
"Today I want a day filled with…" Fill it in and you'll
be really surprised when you start declaring what it is you
want in your day, how that is going to show up more and more.
Being
a happy person doesn't mean being happy every second of every
day. In fact, Randy says you have to feel sad in order to be
happy.
One of
the things that I say is, "Sorrow digs the well and joy
fills it." And in order to really have happiness in one's
life, one must feel all of their feelings, even the most difficult,
because the deeper I've found that I can go in my sorrow, the
greater capacity for joy, I've discovered.
