Mike Carruthers:
If you're going to do well on a job interview you really need
to be prepared ahead of time to answer the questions.
Alan
Nierenberg:
The answer to questions cannot be top of mind answers. They
have to be focused on what the job requires and if you answer
a question that has nothing to do with the skills that that
company requires, you lose.
Employment
expert, Alan Nierenberg, author of the book, Winning
The Interview Game says for example if you are interviewing
for the job of manager of employee benefits…
If someone
asks you a question what are your key strengths you don't want
to say mountain climbing you want to focus on what that company
needs. "Well, my key strengths are, I really understand
employee benefits resulting in saving my company many thousands
of dollars."
You may
be the most qualified person and have all the right answers
but Alan says if the interviewer doesn't like you you're never
going to be hired. Consequentially…
You must
establish rapport during that interview. If you do not establish
rapport with that interviewer you will not be invited back.
I particularly am very interested in practicing the Marshall
Arts for example. I can't tell you, when I was looking for a
job prior to my recruiting business, how that really lit up
the interviewers, "Wow, tell me about that." And it
was just a way of creating a little rapport with the interviewer
to throw out an interesting hobby.
Tomorrow
likely interview questions you need to have answers for, I'm
Mike Carruthers and that's Something You Should Know.
