Mike Carruthers:
On a job interview there are predictable questions you'll almost
certainly be asked, but if you're not prepared in advance you
may stumble and blow your chances.
Alan
Nierenberg:
The one question that I personally resent being asked is, what
is your biggest weakness?
Employment
expert, Alan Nierenberg, author of the book, Winning
The Interview Game…
The way
they should answer that question, come up with a weakness, one,
that doesn't eliminate them from the job. But what they should
do is provide a weakness that they can say they are improving
upon. For example, I'm impatient with my peers; I get impatient,
well now I'm also improving upon that. You acknowledge a weakness
and show how are you improving upon it.
Another
likely question, so tell me about yourself.
Simple
approach to answering that, focus on what the company wants
in the position you are seeking. And so you should describe,
I have a particular industry experience, I have so many years
of being a marketing or a sales or a human resources person.
And you should state several experiences.
But don't
get caught up in a lot of person stuff that doesn't really pertain
to the job. And then there's the old, so why should I hire you?
Well,
because I want the job, no, no, no! They should hire you because;
I understand this company, I know what you do, I know your product
line, I'm excited about your product line and you are at the
leading edge of your industry and I'm excited about joining
your company.
