Carruthers: The kind of coffee you drink can cause your bad
cholesterol to stay high. Dr.
Nancy Snyderman: If you're drinking (like I like) those European
kinds of coffees that are unfiltered like an espresso or a cappuccino - that in
fact may be the culprit. Dr.
Nancy Snyderman, Chief Medical Editor for NBC News and author of the book Medical
Myths that Can Kill You… Strain
your coffee, filter your coffee through a paper filter and that can decrease the
oils that can keep your bad cholesterol up. Should
everyone have an annual physical exam? The
reality is you need to see someone on an annual basis if for nothing else to know
your blood pressure and make sure you don't have blood or sugar or protein in
your urine. But it's important to know somebody on a good day so that when things
go south, and they invariably will, you'll have an advocate. And
Dr. Snyderman says, the idea that vaccinations are just for children is a big
myth. We know that
those vaccines don't last a lifetime and most of us are going to need boosters.
And in addition there are shots that are intended for preteens and adults: everything
from hepatitis to pneumonia, one for HPV, which prevents cancer of the cervix.
And one of the newest ones is for shingles that's really intended for people sixty
and over. Vaccines are probably the greatest technological and scientific breakthrough
of the last hundred years. At
