Mike Carruthers:
People who are out of work and looking for a job too often
don't really have an organized plan of attack.
Michael
Farr:
So they go about jumping into this whole job search thing
and they use ineffective or inefficient techniques. And as a
result it takes them a lot longer to get jobs perhaps than they
should. Or they end up getting jobs that aren't as good.
Michael
Farr, author of the book,
7 Steps To Getting A Job Fast says right off the bat many
people get bogged down in crafting the perfect resume.
So of
course that's part of the problem too, people will sit at home
worrying about the resume. And what I suggest instead is look,
get a simple resume together, it doesn't have to be perfect
just make sure it has no errors; typing, grammar. It can be
simple, and your better approach is go about using that quickly.
And you can spend your time on evenings and weekends making
a better resume, but in the meantime you're out there searching
and being active instead of sitting at home worrying about your
resume.
And being
active means to get out and talk to people who are in a position
to hire you.
I would
just say, get at it, create a schedule, hit it hard at least
five hours a day in an organized way. Go out and get as many
interviews as you can and just work as hard as you can to be
consistent. So that every week you spend about twenty-five hours
a week, keep following up. If you don't do that your unemployment
is just going to continue to stretch out longer than it should.
