Mike
Carruthers:
Clutter and junk make it hard for many of us to concentrate and
be productive.
Ruth Klein:
So right from the get-go, I'm going to share something with
you that is very easy and boy does it help. And that is... gather
all of your junk and stack it - get it out of your sight, get
it off of your desk.
Productivity
expert Ruth Klein, author of the book Time
Management for Working Women…
And then usually
thirty minutes after lunch (which is kind of a dead time physiologically
because the body's working diligently to digest your food and
so you're probably not as creative as you could be). So, this
is a good time to organize papers and you will be amazed at
what you can get taken care of in twenty minutes.
And as you're
attacking projects throughout the day, Ruth recommends you use
the rule of two.
The rule of two
says, "What two items, projects, emails, phone calls -
if you had no other time to accomplish anything but those two
items, you would feel as though you've accomplished something?"
And I can't tell you how productive that has made me and several
other people as well. You choose the top two and you work them
and then when you finish those two, you go on to the next two
and it really helps to prevent overwhelm.
