Stop
Worrying
Interview
with Joseph Luciani author of the book, Self
Coaching
Mike
Carruthers:
Do you worry a lot about things in your life?
Joseph
Luciani:
I would have to say that worry itself is probably
the most ineffective and inefficient thing that we do as human
beings. It is a constant waste of energy and time and if nothing
else all it does is it gives us that elusion that if we know
what's coming ahead of time we'll be better off.
Dr. Joseph
Luciani author of the book
Self Coaching says worriers are often very anxious people
who spend a lot of time what-ifing
What
if I loose my job, what if I'm ten minutes late. What-ifing
is very common, shoulds are very common, I should do this, I
should be better, have to's .So, there are typical traps that
anxiety prone people fall into and usually these have to do
with demands and usually very unrealistic demands on our performance.
So the next
time you are anxious or worried or what-ifing listen to what
you're telling yourself. What Dr. Luciana calls self-talk.
And essentially
what self-talk teaches is that there are three steps. One you
first need to learn to listen to inner dialogue to the voice
of distortion that has become your habit, which produces the
anxiety or depression. Once you hear that then you really understand
this choice. The second step is to choose not to listen. And
the third step is to start moving toward the truth. And simply
put the truth is living without the distortions of insecurity.
