Reducing Money Stress
Interview
with Julie Stav, author of The
Money In You
|
Mike
Carruthers:
Money
may not buy happiness, however…
Julie Stav:
Money buys you options - it buys you the time to concentrate
and cultivate that special gift that each one of us has been
given. If you're worried about paying your bills, you cannot
worry about doing good.
Financial expert
Julie Stav, author of the book The
Money in You, says we can all start to be better money managers
by simply noticing how we spend our money day- to- day.
Just becoming
aware - like maybe going to the ATM machine three times a week,
maybe getting that expensive coffee every day. We realize how
much money is just running through our fingers and we can redirect
it - which is really what's important here. It's what is important
to you and what are you willing to do to reach your goals?
Julie's noticed
in working with her clients that a lot of people either believe
that they're not smart enough to be an effective money manager
or they're just not all that interested - but those attitudes,
she says, really hold people back.
Because it's
not a matter of I don't want to play the money game, it's a
matter of do I win in this game that I have no choice in playing?
If you're renting, if you're buying, if you drive a car you've
purchased, you're already in the money game. The question is
now, " Are you going to be successful or not?"
Making peace
with the money you have and learning to take control of it is
really critical says Julie.
And you know
what? - what really shows in research is that you are happy
and then you attract success, it's not the other way around.
