Housework Made Easy
Interview
with Tara Aronson author of the book Simplify
Your Household
Mike
Carruthers:
You probably already have your routine down for how you
clean your house, but here's some advise that might make things
simpler and a little more effective.
Tara
Aronson:
Something I've found really helpful is tossing the
sponge in the dishwasher, I mean it is easy enough, popping
it in the dishwasher on the top rack, taking it out and it's
germ free.
Tara Aronson
author of the book Simplify
Your Household.
It's
actually a really good idea in general to close the lid of your
toilet in your bathroom because a lot of us think that there
are germs for obvious reasons but one thing that we don't know
is that the simple flushing of the toilet can send germs into
the air, then they float around and settle on surfaces like
our toothbrushes and other things. So one of the easiest things
we can do is simply to put the lid of the toilet down before
your flush.
As for cleaning
products Tara isn't too choosy except when it comes to laundry
detergent.
Generally
powders outperform the liquids and Tide is just about the best
in terms of getting the laundry clean and being cost effective.
Tara says
most stains will come out of clothes if you keep washing the
garment over and over again but never dry it until the stain
is gone. And for vacuuming…
The one
thing that you want to do is go back and forth about six or
seven passes. The dirt that's been walked in especially if you
have any sort of a shag or pile carpet, it gets down there.
So what you need, the vacuum itself needs to agitate the fibers
of the carpet to loosen it up so it allows your vacuum to suck
the dirt up.
