Starting Your Own Business
Interview
with Jeffrey J. Fox author of the book How
To Make Big Money In Your Own Small Business
Mike
Carruthers:
Ever think about starting your own business, lots of people
do.
Jeffrey
Fox:
Well there are approximately five hundred and forty
five thousand new businesses started every year. Approximately
a third of those last for two years a third lasts for four and
the balance lasts for the length of time of the business.
Jeffery
Fox author of the book How
To Make Big Money In Your Own Small Business…
The most
important factor to having a successful small business is to
have a customer. And too many small businesses ever look at
how many customers are there in my trading area. There's no
excuse for not doing some back to the envelope research as to
whether or not, the movie Field of Dreams said, "If I build
it will they come?" Well, find out.
And then
you have to be able to sell your idea.
The small
business owner he or she has to be selling all the time. Everyday,
every moment thinking about getting and keeping customers.
And Jeffrey
says all successful business owners have to remember to…
Work
on the business not just in the business. You need to be able
to delegate to certain things that the business needs to have
done to people who do that better or who do them at lesser costs.
And here
is a very encouraging statistic…
There
are twenty five million small businesses in the United States.
Approximately twenty million have nine or less employees and
it's estimated at maybe seventeen million have one to three
employees. These people are finding a way to make your business
successful with very limited human resources.
Tomorrow,
what types of new businesses are making it, I'm Mike Carruthers
and that's Something You Should Know.
