Mike Carruthers:
All relationships reach a point where things just aren't as
passionate as they once were.
Michael
Jonas:
It doesn't mean the people in the relationship are falling
out of love, it doesn't mean the relationship is even winding
down. And it can often be the demands placed on a relationship-by
children, by community involvement.
Michael
Jonas, author of The
Book of Love, Laughter, and Romance, says it's not hard
to reenergize things.
Simply
introduce a change in your environment, and the best place to
start is in the bedroom. A candle, some flowers, clean up all
the magazines all over the place. All that stuff gets cleaned
out. Maybe a fresh new bedspread.
And simply
changing your routine will work wonders, says Michael.
Breaking
patterns introduces energy and it's almost always a positive
change. If you come home in the evening and the first thing
you do is turn on the television, don't turn on the TV. Put
on some soft background music. Psychologists tell us that when
you introduce soft music, people speak more softly and you tend
to listen more. You're changing the dynamic in the relationship.
In short,
Michael says you just need to focus a little energy in the relationship…
…so it
can be everything from a post-it note on the bathroom mirror
to a sexy note in the underwear drawer to a surprise date on
a Saturday night. All of those ideas still require, at some
level, paying attention to the relationship.
