Weird Inventions
Interview
with Ted Van Cleave author of the book, Totally
Absurd Inventions
Mike
Carruthers:
You probably have no idea of the ridiculous inventions that
actually get patented in this country. For example…
Ted Van
Cleave:
Cheese filtered cigarettes. Cheese filtered cigarettes
is a cigarette with a hard cheese in it preferably a romano or
parmesan. The inventor says that the cheese absorbs the nicotine.
But the problem is they go rancid of course.
Ted Van
Cleave author of the book Totally
Absurd Inventions researched the files of the U.S. patent
office to find these things. Like ear tubes for dogs.
Ear tubes
for dogs essentially look like two toilet paper rolls that you
slip over your dogs ears and they stand out straight. The reason
why is that some dogs like cocker spaniels have long ears and
they get in the food dish and the water bowl and they get all
over the furniture and make a mess. There's also the toilet
landing light. Toilet landing lights are indirect lighting for
the bowl of your toilet so when you go to the bathroom in the
middle of the night there's one color glowing for the seat down
and another one glowing for the seat up.
Ted also
found three legged panty hose so if you get a run in one leg
you still have two good ones left. The motorized ice cream cone
turner and furniture that floats to the ceiling when not being
used to free up more floor space. But you've probably never
seen these products on the market.
There
are about a hundred and fifty thousand patents issued every
year about three percent become viable products, that means
they're on the market, only one percent of those become really
successful items.
