Mike
Carruthers:
How often would you guess there are pricing errors on your
grocery store receipt?
Stephanie Nelson:
Almost every trip - a shopper will notice if they looked -
a price error or a defective product. And imagine how much you
could save over a year if you were to take that back on your next
trip?
Stephanie Nelson,
author of the book Greatest
Secrets of the Coupon Mom…
I'm not saying
it's purposeful - there was even a study done that showed there
were twice as many price errors in the store's favor as there
were in the customer's favor.
So, it's worth
checking and Stephanie says another effective way to save money
at the grocery store is to know the store's pricing policies.
Does your store
double coupons - do they do it everyday, do they double up to
a certain limit? And you'd be surprised how differently each
store works.
For example,
buy one get one free…
Some stores will
charge you full price for the first item and then the second
item will ring in at zero. So, obviously you need to buy two
items to get the benefit of the savings. But, many stores will
actually just charge you half price for each item and you might
want to just buy one item if you happen to have one coupon by
buying one half-price item with the coupon if it's a store that
doubles. You may actually pay nothing for that item - and that's
really knowing how your store's savings programs work and then
using them to your advantage.
