Mike
Carruthers:
Everyday life can be the enemy of a good relationship because
we're all so busy doing everything else; our relationship gets
in a rut.
Dr. Terri Orbuch:
I encourage couples to spend at least five minutes a day talking
to one another about something other than the kids, work and errands
to get out of a relationship rut.
Dr. Terri Orbuch,
who has a three-CD series called Relationship
CPR, says just by spending time together doing something
new and different, can put some of the spark back into your
love relationship.
I also encourage
couples to play board games together to get to know one another
again. And as soon as you do that as well, you re-ignite your
passion. My favorite tip is what I call the transfer of arousal.
And that is you do an activity like a scary movie, a roller
coaster ride and the excitement caused by that activity will
actually get transferred to your partner and to your relationship.
Do you have taboo
subjects in your relationship, issues you just can't resolve?
Dr. Orbuch says most couples do.
And basically
what you need to do at that point is agree to disagree. Some
couples have religion or politics as their taboo topic - they
just can't change the other person and they agree to disagree.
