Mike
Carruthers:
Body language, it really is something to pay attention to.
John
Boe:
About 70% of an impact of a face-to-face communication
is impacted through body language rather than through the spoken
word.
Sales
trainer and motivational speaker John Boe is an expert on body
language.
It's
been proven also, Mike, that body language is much more accurate
than what someone might be telling you verbally.
You can't
just look at one body language gesture, you have to look at
all the body language signals a person is giving. But here's
an example…
If a
person is asked a question that they should know about (something
from their past), their eyes will automatically, if their accessing
their past memory, their eyes will go up and to the left, to
their left. So, if I ask you a question, for example if I was
a border guard, and I asked you where you came from. And as
you're answering me your eyes go up and to the right, well now
you're accessing the future. So, it would indicate to me you're
making up an answer.
John
says we instinctively know how to read a person's body language.
That's how we often get a gut feeling about someone good or
bad. Head movements can also be very telling.
There's
neutral that's where the head obviously is straight up and in
a neutral position. Head back is superiority. Head forward is
interest and head down leaning forward is hostility.
