Why Is Everyone In Such A Hurry?
Interview
with C. Leslie Charles author of the book, Why
Is Everyone So Cranky?
Mike
Carruthers:
Ever wonder why people are less friendly and more cranky
than they used to be?
Leslie
Charles:
Because as a society we are overwhelmed, overworked,
overscheduled and overspent. Does that sound like anyone you
know?
Leslie Charles,
author of the book Why
Is Everyone So Cranky? says that whole concept of everyone
being so busy has become part of our way of life.
And you
know a lot of people who, when they have this busy crammed overscheduled
calendar and somebody cancels on them, what do they do? Do they
sit down, put their feet up? No, they make another appointment.
Greetings today, people say to each other, " Hi, how have
you been?" "Busy" And for kids time out is a
punishment, time out should be a reward.
And hurrying
through life has become second nature.
A lot
of people hurry without even realizing it. A lot of people hurry
to get to places they don't even want to go. We also build those
habits for our kids. We tell our kids, hurry up, eat your breakfast,
hurry up, get dressed.
Leslie recommends
that we all slow down a little bit and practice choice management
instead of time management.
And you're
saying things like " Is this really important to me?"
If I'm going to be held up by traffic will getting upset make
the traffic unsnarl? If I'm dealing with an incompetent clerk
will my getting angry with them increase my intelligence? You
have hundreds of decisions you can make in a day, if you're
going to blow something off, or blow up.
