Interesting Truths You Never Knew
Interview
with Brian Thomsen, author of The
Awful Truth
|
Mike
Carruthers:
Many things and people are not always as they appear. For example,
Elvis Presley always considered himself to always be very anti-drug.
Brian Thomsen:
He was thick law and order - he loved Richard Nixon.
Brian Thomsen,
author of the book The
Awful Truth…
He never considered
himself to be a person with a drug problem because all of the
drugs he took were prescribed to him by a doctor.
There has been
a lot of speculation on who Mario Puzo based the character Don
Corleone in the Godfather - was it a real mobster? Apparently
not…
In reality, Mario
Puzo based the character Don Corleone on his mother. He said
his mother gave him the inspiration for Don Corleone.
And on I Love
Lucy, the actors who played Fred and Ethel Mertz hated each other.
William Frawley
was a curmudgeon who liked to come and cash his checks and considered
Vivian Vance to be far inferior to him. The real proof that
they hated each other had to do when Lucy and Dezi wanted to
end the show, Desilu Studios immediately figured they could spin
off the Mertzs' to their own show. William Frawley was willing
to sign on because it would be another paycheck - Vivian Vance
on the other hand said, " No amount of money is worth having
to work with that man again."
