Bad Breath
II
Interview
with Dr. Harold Katz author of the book, The
Bad Breath Bible (800) 826-9882 www.freshbreath.com
Mike
Carruthers:
What's the best way to keep your breath smelling fresh?
Dr. Harold
Katz:
People need to drink more water, water is important
because it helps to replenish saliva, which is nature's way
of keeping your breath fresh.

For instance
when you're around a baby and they're drooling all over the
place but they have that delicious baby's breath, the fragrance.
Adults need that too, so you need to drink water to help to
replenish the saliva. Unfortunately many of the medications
that we're taking as we're older have "dry mouth"
as a side effect. So, if you are taking any medication such
as high blood pressure medication or anti-depressants or any
heart medications make sure you drink two full glasses of water
with that medicine.
Sugar, says
Dr. Katz, contributes to bad breath.
Many
of the breath mints, especially those that come in the little
tin can have sugar in them. And sugar feeds bacteria so what
you don't want to do is make the culprits any stronger than
they already are.
Since much
of the bacteria that causes bad breath lives on your tongue
Dr. Katz recommends that you brush your tongue when you brush
your teeth. But water, water is the ticket.
I always recommend that if you're at a party and there are
some problematic foods that are only available just sip some
water after that. You can get rid of at least thirty percent
of bad breath germs just by sipping on a glass of water.
