Proven Ways To Lose Weight
Interview
with Dr. John Foreyt, Director of The Nutrition Research
Clinic At Baylor College School of Medicine

Mike
Carruthers:
If
you really want to lose weight and keep it off...
John
Foreyt :
Diets do not work. The worst thing a person can do is
go on a strenuous diet.
Dr. John
Foreyt, Director of The Nutrition Research Clinic, at Baylor College
in Texas, recently conducted a study to determine the best way
to lose weight and keep it off.
The
best way is to reduce your calories intake a little bit by making
some simple substitutions, like using a diet soda or light yogurt
or any low calorie products and then increasing a little bit
of physical activity. If you just burn say, 250 calories from
exercise a day and eat 250 calories less you're going to lose
a pound a week or 50 pounds in a year without doing anything.
And when you
increase your activity level and get a little more exercise
there is a whole other list of benefits that has nothing to
do with weight loss.
Increasing your
good cholesterol - your HDL, feeling good about yourself, it
counteracts depression, it counteracts stress, it counteracts
negative mood states. So the best way to handle all of our negative
affective states - our negative moods, is really get out there
and walk for 15 or 20 minutes.
So, in a nutshell,
Dr. Foreyt's recent research study says the prescription for
losing weight is...
Cut your portion
sizes, you want to increase fruits and vegetables, you want
to exercise more and you want to use low calorie products. So
you get the same flavor and you're not depriving yourself and
you're still getting the good nutrients .
