Internet Job Hunting
Interview
with Susan Joyce,Founder of www.job-hunt.org
Mike
Carruthers:
The Internet has drastically changed the landscape for job
seekers, however…
Susan
Joyce:
I don't think that anybody should avoid or should
not use the Internet in their job search but I also think that
they're crazy if it's the only thing that they use.
Susan Joyce
editor and senior job hunter for job-hunt.org…
Use it
to do research, to identify employers, to find out more about
employers to get really, really well prepared for an interview
but, I'm always asking people how they got their job and at
least half the time it's somebody that they knew, somebody that
they worked with brought their resume in and got them the interview.
People don't really want to hear that. Networking - person to
person is how people get hired.
There are
services that will blast your resume all over the Internet for
you, however…
Often
it's got their home phone number, their home address it's got
all kinds of really private information about them and if they
just scatter shout it across the Internet you don't know who
ends up with it.
Many job
applicants will use the Internet because it's easy to apply
for all kinds of jobs even ones they're not qualified for, because,
hey, it's worth a shot.
But what
you do nowadays is your training them to ignore you, you know;
"oh here's Joe Smith again he applies for everything"
and you just get discarded even though you might be applying
for something that is actually appropriate for you.
