Things Men Should Never Say To Women II
Interview
with Kate Dailey, Associate Editor of Men's Health magazine |
Mike
Carruthers:
If you're a married man, have you ever said this to your wife
during a fight?
Kate
Dailey:
"You knew I was this way when you married me."
That is just the worst.
Kate Dailey,
Associate Editor for Men's Health magazine which has an article
on the things you should never say to a woman during a fight.
When
you say "you knew I was this way when you married me,"
it kind of implies that the relationship is never going to change,
you're never going to grow as a person. And women are eternal
optimists and they need to feel like there is always hope in
the future.
Another thing
you should never say to a woman during a fight is, "Oh
it's fine with me... whatever."
That's another
thing women hate to hear. Because when women have a fight with
a man, it's not because they want to win or they want to make
him feel bad about himself. When a woman is having a fight with
a man it's because she feels like they're not communicating.
So when you say, "whatever you want to do is fine with
me." Or when you say, "whatever," you're not
really participating in the conversation. And she's not getting
what she wants which is for you to be a part of this relationship
and for you and her to make decisions together.
And something
else you should never say to a woman during a fight is... nothing.
A lot of guys
employ this technique because they think, "I'll just let
her get what's on her chest off her chest. I'll let her scream
and shout and I'll just sit there quietly until the storm sort
of passes over. But again women aren't out there to try and
make you feel bad. They're out there to have a conversation
with you. And when you don't say anything, it just makes her
feel like her anger isn't valid. So you need say anything. It's
a conversation, it's got to be a back and forth.
