What Do You Think Happens When You Die?
Interview
with Janis Amatuzio, M.D. author of the book Forever
Ours
Mike
Carruthers:
What do you think happens when you die?
Janis
Amatuzio:
I have the sense and I can't prove it,that we simply
go on.
Forensic
pathologist and Coroner Janis Amatuzio has collected some amazing
stories from the families of the deceased and put them in a
book called Forever
Ours.
When
I began calling families after the post mortem examination of
the autopsies and occasionally they would tell me a story about
a visit, a dream, a synchronicity that occurred in or around
the death of a loved one. And how these were so incredibly comforting
and I think for those who are grieving perhaps the hope that
we really do meet again.
Dr. Amatuzio
recalls one story from the mother of a young man killed in a
traffic accident.
And her
son had appeared to their babysitter - a young woman who had
babysat for them fifteen years earlier. This babysitter was
awakened on the night of this young man's death and he appeared
distressed and he said, "Oh, please tell my mother that
I love her and I'm so sorry I've caused the family so much pain."
So the babysitter wrote to the mom, the mom told me about it
and she said you know losing my son was the worst thing that's
ever happened to me but hearing that he appeared, I know now
that somehow I'll see him again.
Tomorrow
more from Dr. Amatuzio, I'm Mike Carruthers and that's Something
You Should Know.
