Mike
Carruthers:
Sometimes you don't have a calculator so you have to do math
in your head. So, here's a trick…
Edward Droge:
Let's say you want to multiply by eleven, something that comes
up a lot more than you might think in your life. Multiplying
by eleven is taking the two numbers and adding them together
and inserting the result in between the two numbers.
Ed Droge, author
of the book, Your
Intelligence Makeover…
Let me give you
an example: 11 x 23. You take the 2 and the 3, which makes 5
and you put the 5 in between the 2 and the 3 so, the answer's
253.
Want to multiply
by 5? Well, take the number 243…
243, add a 0
which makes it 2430 and then divide the number in half. So,
you see 2430, half of 24 is 12, half of 30 is 15. The answer's
1215, 1..2..1..5.
Want to improve
your writing skills? Ed taught writing at Harvard and says,
if you follow these five rules you will instantly be a better
writer.
The very first
thing is: don't slow the flow in the beginning. Get it all out
on paper, then draw an outline that will work like a blueprint.
The third piece of advice is to state the point of the piece
immediately. It permits the reader to know right from the start
what it is that you're talking about. The fourth way is to tell
them what you're going to say- say it and then tell them what
you said. And the last way to improve your writing is to revise,
revise, revise.
