Mike
Carruthers:
One important business concept you don't hear much about
is: appreciation.
Noelle Nelson:
The US Department of Labor says that the number one reason people
quit their jobs is lack of appreciation.
Noelle Nelson,
author of the book, The
Power Of Appreciation in Business.
Appreciation
in business is a scientifically demonstrable energy. It's not
just a nice way of saying thank you. Appreciation is actually
paying attention to, caring about and amplifying the value or
the worth of any person or thing. And it responds scientifically
to like. In other words when you see the value in someone or
something they will respond by giving you value.
When a business
adopts a culture of appreciation there are huge rewards above
and beyond improved morale and happy people.
Actually the
people are happier and morale is better is almost the afterthought.
The big payoff has been shown by a very extensive study of some
31 organizations over 26,000 employees, which showed…that companies
which recognized employee value, which truly appreciate, have
triple the return of companies that don't. So, appreciation
is actually incredibly good for your bottom line. So, appreciation
is a bottom line, dollars thing, not a feel good.
Tomorrow, the
important difference between appreciation and gratitude. I'm
Mike Carruthers and that's Something You Should Know.
