Mike
Carruthers:
You likely know many of the ways you can save energy and therefore
save money on your energy bills. But there are some things that
you may not know, for example…
Jennifer Thorne
Amann:
Anything that has one of those black, larger black power supply
plugs, all of those are drawing power even when they're not
being used.
Jennifer Thorne

Guide to Home Energy Savings…
And one of the
best solutions is to plug those items into a power strip that
has a switch on it and if you turn the switch off on the power
strip you'll cut off power to all those peripheral devices.
When you're through charging your cell phone and leave for the
day, go ahead and pull the plug from the outlet - all of those
things really add up over time.
So think about
all of those things you have around the house that have those
big black box-like plugs that plug into the wall.
So if you have
a dust buster that sits around plugged in all of the time but
you don't use it very often you may want to unplug that. If
you have rechargeable tools that you leave plugged in all of
the time you would want to unplug those and maybe if you know
you have a project coming up on the weekend you can go plug
in your rechargeable tools on Friday night and by Saturday morning
they'll be ready to go.
No one of these
energy saving tips is going to save you a lot of money but collectively
they really do add up.
And the great
thing is you do all these steps, you weather proof your home
- you're going to be saving money this winter, in the summer,
next winter and for years and years to come.
