Mike
Carruthers:
Remembering numbers, names and faces is hard for a lot of us.
Arthur Bornstein:
Names and faces is just a matter of knowing how to create quick
associations - like my name is Bornstein, you might say, "Oh
a little baby is in his arms just born and he's feeding the
baby with an enormous stein" - Born stein.
Arthur Bornstein
is the Founder of the Bornstein School for Memory Training…
So if you're
meeting a lady named Sherman you say, "What does Sherman
remind me of?" Could be a Sherman tank. So any association
will work - it's just a matter of applying the technique.
Arthur says you
can remember just about anything by making a visual association.
So if I said
to you, "Who's the seventh President of the United States?"
The seventh President is Jackson. So you might see a jacket
with a big number seven on the back of it; jacket - Jackson.
And Arthur's
association technique also works with numbers.
I have an 800
number: 800-468-2058. To get a picture you might say, "In
the Bornstein Memory School there's four sixty-eight year olds
taking the course - one in each corner of the room. Their teacher
is twenty and she's a cute twenty- year-old teacher and she
makes them feel fifty-eight." So what you have to do is
review that once or twice and that number's going to last for
long periods of time.
