Holiday Shopping Tips
Interview
with Kathy Harris, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Babson
College in Wellesley, Massachusetts |
Mike Carruthers:
Is the day after Thanksgiving really a good day to do your holiday
shopping? Kathy
Harris:
Only if you’re insane! It’s really crowded. You can get some
good deals, but it’s going to be a very stressful experience
- that’s my humble opinion.
Kathy
Harris, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Babson College in
Wellesley, Massachusetts…
If you’re
at all able to go shopping during the week - in the early morning
hours you’re going to miss most of the traffic, and you’re going
to have a much more pleasurable experience. That’s the time
to go, I’m telling you, because everybody else is at work.
And some good gift
ideas for those who are hard to shop for…
Classic
movie posters (if you can figure out their favorite movie),
their favorite rock group. You can get a concert poster, a movie
poster. You have it framed. A lot of times these online sites
like art.com will do it for you, and that way you can get a
really personalized gift that they will love.
If
you have mother who has everything, take a picture of yourself
with your siblings. Put it in a nice frame, and I promise you
she’ll cry on Christmas morning.
A
lot of people like to get the handmade items, so a neat trick
that people are starting to do is - they’ll take all of the
dry ingredients for cookies, let’s say, put it in the mason
jar and put a label on the outside giving the directions for
adding the wet ingredients and the cooking time. And that way
you’re giving a sort of homemade gift to someone. They can make
fresh baked cookies without much effort, and they’ll be thinking
of you when they’re eating the hot, steamy cookies.
