20, 2007: Last Minute Gift Ideas Interview
with Christine Frietchin, Managing Editor www.consumersearch.com |
Mike
Carruthers:
If you still need an idea for a Christmas gift… Christine Frietchin:
This year seems to be all about GPS. Those were really expensive the last two
or three years and that whole product category has really exploded. Christine
Frietchin, Managing Editor of consumersearch.com… There's
a good new GPS chip called the Surfstar 3. It came out in the last eighteen months
or so and it allows for a better signal-lock than the earlier GPS units used to
get. So the accuracy is just improving in general. Digital
photo frames are popular this year. They look like regular picture frames but… It
has a little miniature motherboard and a memory module and theoretically you plug
the thing in, you load you're photos and they play. A lot of them now are starting
to have wi-fi features, which means you can connect them to your wireless network
and send photos wirelessly. And
if you're looking for an electronic stocking stuffer… You
can now get USB thumb drives and they come in large enough sizes that you can
really back up your whole documents folder on this tiny little drive. Backing
up your computer files might not be the sexiest thing to think about on Christmas
morning but it's something that you'll thank yourself for down the road. And those
make really good stocking stuffers and the prices have dropped a lot. You
