Mike Carruthers:
It is a joyous time of year but also a stressful time of year,
why? According to one recent survey, money. Bob
Losyk:
Sixty-one percent of people said that they were stressed out
at holiday time because they just didn’t have enough money.
Stress expert,
Bob Losyk author of the book, "Get
a Grip," says keeping a cap on your holiday spending can really help keep the stress level down, especially when there are so many other potential stressors.
Getting
together with the family at that time of the year is just really
stressful to people. Of course, just too many demands - getting
the house cleaned, getting all the shopping done. One of the
other things, Mike, is that people try to be a perfectionist.
They want to make it the best ever holiday they ever had.
But things
don’t go perfectly. They never do, for anybody. So count on
that, and keep a positive attitude.
People
have been hooked up to all kinds of equipment in medical research
that shows that when they think negative thoughts their body
reacts negatively. When they think positive thoughts, their
body reacts positively and stress levels go down.
So, if
you think this is going to be a terrible stressful day, Christmas
or Chanukah, if you make it that way in your mind - I guarantee
you - it will be.
It’s
ok if things go wrong. Thanksgiving, my wife put the yams into
the oven, and they caught on fire, and we were laughing about
it. We had to because this has never happened before. We pulled
it out of the oven, and we peeled off the burnt part, and it
was probably the best yams we ever had.
Tomorrow
a sure fire way to feel good this holiday season. I’m
Mike Carruthers and that’s Something You Should Know.
