Mike Carruthers:
If you want to feel really great this holiday especially if you’re
feeling a little bit down… Bob
Losyk:
Try and help the needy and do something for somebody else it
just makes people feel so great.
Stress expert,
Bob Losyk author of the book, "Get
a Grip: Overcoming Stress & Thriving in the Workplace"...
There
is so much research out there that shows that people who help
other people definitely feel better. It brings down their blood
pressure. It brings down their heartbeat, relaxes their muscles
- makes them feel absolutely incredible.
Even though it’s
a happy time of year people tend not to take very good care
of themselves this time of year.
They
don’t watch what they eat and drink. Thirty-six percent of people
in this recent survey, I saw for the American Psychological
Association, said they eat or drink too much to cope with the
holidays. And twenty percent said that it definitely affects
and impacts their health in a negative way.
That little bit of
exercise and relaxation this time of year can really do a world
of good.
At the
end of the day, go for a walk with your family; go for a walk
by yourself, in some peaceful place, just take walks. They’re
now finding out that walking is one of the most incredibly healthiest
things you can do. It gives us certain things in our blood that
keep down blood clots and prevent heart disease. So I’m telling
people - get out there, and walk, and relax. Wear a headset.
Listen to soothing music. Do anything you can. But you’ve got
to take a break from things.
