New Kind Of Job Security
Interview
with Pam Lassiter, author of
The New Job Security
Mike
Carruthers:
When you're out of work and looking for a new job the worst
thing you can ask people is.......
Pam Lassiter:
Do you know of any job openings. That happens to people
all the time and people feel used.
Pam Lassiter
author of the book The
New Job Security says it's all about networking, but you
have to network all the time.
So, staying
connected with people and helping them, when you don't need
them, means that they are there for you when you do need them.
The last time you want to start a network is when you're in
desperate need of one.
Pam believes
one of the worst places to look for a job is in the help wanted
ads that list job openings.
The more
you look for job openings the more they can allude you because
everybody else looks for the same openings. The more you look
for needs and for company problems the more you can start creating
jobs where there is no competition.
Pam believes
that there is job security today but it's very different than
it used to be...
The location
has changed. Job security has moved to inside of you. Job security
is being able to predict where you would like to go and to be
able to get there. It includes some planning, it includes things
about what connections I need to get from A to B. And this is
all part of having a strategic long term plan. Not just reacting
to a job change.
