Benefits Of Change In Your Life
Interview
with John Putzier, author of
Get Weird!
Mike
Carruthers:
Do you ever feel that your life is dull and routine, well it
appears that that is human nature.
John
Putzier:
85% of the average adult person's day is habit. And we look
for those habits because they're comfortable.
Management
consultant John Putzier, author of the book, Get
Weird!
We are faced
with so many things throughout the day that are stressful or
unpredictable that we'd like to build predictability into our
life so we get into routines.
But change
can be motivating even stimulating if we introduce change into
our own lives.
"If
you start small, take a different route to work, start looking
around, start being aware of things that you aren't even seeing
everyday. Try a new food, change your appearance because then
you will be able to handle change when it comes your way. And
it won't be as stressful, then you start learning that change
is kind of fun because you usually come out on the other side
, stronger, smarter, happier and you aren't as closed minded
or narrow or rigid.
.
Another
excellent way to bring change into your life...
Start associating
with people you wouldn't normally associate with. This is the
powerful one, it forces us to start realizing that everyone
has some value that we may not be aware of. I teach at the college
level and I could easily judge my students based on what they
look like when they walk into class the first night and I'd
be wrong. My definition of a weirdo is anybody not like you
and that's why there are so damn many of them. So, start getting
to know some weirdos personally.
