Interview with William F. Harley Jr., author of the book He Wins She Wins
Mike Carruthers:
You don’t hear about it much as you used to but taking a daily low dose aspirin may be very good for your health.
William F. Harley Jr.:
On a daily basis a low dose of an aspirin reduces inflammation which is at the route of heart disease, cancer and some of the brain diseases.
William F. Harley Jr., author of the book He Wins She Wins:Learning the Art of Marital Negotiation, says resolving a conflict and coming to an agreement is only step 1.
I’m saying something beyond that though and this is if you want a romantic relationship you must agree enthusiastically. There cannot be a reluctant agreement in marriage.
So for example, Willard says if he wants Mexican for dinner and his wife wants Chinese.
We give up the thing that we would have been our first choice and we go with something else that we both would agree to. So instead we go to an Indian restaurant and when we go dinning that’s what we end up doing most of the time. Going to things we both enjoy and neither one of us is going to have much Mexican or Chinese food during our lifetime.
Coming to an enthusiastic agreement is almost impossible if you get angry.
Getting angry will not help you solve your problem. As a matter of fact you need to use your intelligence to solve your problem, you need to think, you need to look at the other person with respect – getting angry ruins all of that.
